Experience:
In addition to conducting over 500 successful one-on-one writing coaching sessions, Casey has also taught English and writing in high school and college classrooms and received enthusiastic course reviews. Her experience spans helping students as young as six with basic reading skills to coaching adults who are in graduate school or working on refining their writing for the workplace. Casey particularly enjoys helping students compose personal statements for college and graduate school and develop writing that tells a unique story for other parts of applications.
In addition to helping students in many different levels of their education, Casey also has experience working with students with diverse learning needs. She has conducted many private consultations with students with learning differences, test anxiety, perfectionistic tendencies, and executive functioning challenges.
Casey is always excited to brainstorm ideas with students and collaborate on projects, while also ensuring that students are the ultimate authors of their work and ideas. As a creative writer and essayist, Casey understands the writing process can be deeply iterative. However, over and over again, she has witnessed the development of reliable writing skills lead to greater self-expression and a dramatic increase in self-confidence.
In addition to founding and running CJL Tutoring, Casey has also worked as a writing coach or consultant for various organizations, including The StudyPro in McLean, Virginia, and The Writing Center at George Mason University. Students return to see Casey because they find her motivating and end up learning a lot of helpful writing strategies along the way.
Casey spends her free time reading, hiking, and training her dog for agility competitions.
